Description

Tycon Solar’s® TP-SC24-20 solar controllers deliver high-performance, 3-stage PWM temperature-compensated battery charging to maximize efficiency and extend battery life. Designed for precision and reliability, these controllers optimize charging cycles while protecting batteries from overcharging and damage. With multiple load operating modes, users can easily customize settings using the built-in “key” button, ensuring seamless integration into any solar power system.

Reliable Power with Smooth, Controlled Start

To prevent damaging power surges, the TP-SC24-20 features a soft start function, allowing it to gradually and reliably power high-capacitance loads up to 20A. This ensures sensitive electronic devices remain protected. Additionally, the built-in On/Off button provides users with instant control, allowing them to quickly disconnect load power when operating in default mode (15) for added safety and flexibility.

Comprehensive Protections for Maximum System Safety

Engineered for long-term reliability, the TP-SC24-20 is equipped with full electronic protections that actively safeguard your system against potential damage, including:

  • Short circuit protection to prevent system failures
  • Reverse current protection to block backflow that could drain batteries
  • Overvoltage and overcharge protection to ensure stable power delivery
  • Over-discharge and over-temperature protection to extend battery life

With auto-recovery functionality, the system automatically resets after a fault condition clears, allowing for uninterrupted operation without manual intervention.

Automatic Battery Equalization for Peak Performance

To keep batteries operating at maximum efficiency, the TP-SC24-20 includes an automatic battery equalization charge. Activating every 30 days, this function balances charge levels, reduces sulfation, and extends battery lifespan. To prevent overuse, the equalization charge is limited to one hour, ensuring batteries remain in top condition without unnecessary strain.

Built-In USB Charging for Added Convenience

For technicians working on-site, the integrated 5V 1A USB charging port offers a quick and easy way to power up phones or tablets, eliminating the hassle of carrying extra charging equipment. This practical feature makes the TP-SC24-20 an ideal choice for remote and off-grid installations.

Secure, Hassle-Free Installation

Installing the TP-SC24-20 is fast and straightforward, thanks to its six screw terminals, which support wire sizes up to 10AWG. For secure mounting, the controller includes four 3.5mm screw holes, ensuring a stable and durable installation. While the unit is internally fused for protection, we recommend adding an external 20A fuse between the controller and battery for extra safety and reliability.

The Ultimate Solar Power Management Solution

Tycon Solar’s® TP-SC24-20 solar controllers provide a powerful, efficient, and user-friendly solution for managing solar power systems with confidence. With advanced features, intelligent protections, and added conveniences, these controllers help ensure smooth, safe, and reliable operation in any environment.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What differences can I expect when switching my batteries to LiFePO4?

LIT is a battery settings mode.  When switching to LIT, the S parameters should be the same as the previous default settings.

When battery voltage falls below 10V the battery BMS disconnects the battery discharge. As soon as there is PV voltage the battery BMS connects the charge and discharge. We recommend the customer set the LOAD Output turnoff at 11V so tha load disconnects before the battery BMS disconnects the discharge.

We recommend that you just leave the parameters set to AGM Lead Acid. This is how the Lithium battery BMS is designed. The AGM Lead Acid settings in the charge controller are compatible with the battery BMS.

You won’t see voltage spikes when connected to the battery (BMS), even if the battery BMS disconnects the discharge.  No firmware updates are available or needed to switch from AGM lead acid to lithium.

Procedure for toggling the LOAD in the Firmware?

Having physical access to the TPDIN-WEB3 Monitor and log into  it.

Select the MPPT tab

What you need to do now is to make sure the enable Load Toggle is selected

At this point you will toggle the load to off then back to On then uncheck the Enable Toggle Load box.

This makes changes to the firmware in the charge controller so now power down your controller – disconnect solar charging then disconnect the batteries by removing the fuse

Wait 1 minute then reconnect the batteries and verify everything comes back on including your load. If everything is back on then reconnect your solar.

My WEB3 is connected to the MPPT solar controller with an RS485 serial cable but the current readings are all zero on the MPPT display and in the WEB3 MPPT page

The ground between the V- load output on the MPPT solar controller and the TPDIN-Monitor-WEB3 V- needs to be isolated for the MPPT controller to sense the currents properly.

A TP-DCDC-1224 DCDC converter can be used to isolate the power and solve this issue.

I have a Tycon MPPT solar charge controller. My batteries are wired for 24V, but they are so low the controller thinks they are 12V batteries and won’t charge them

The MPPT charge controllers by default are set for 12V/24V auto detect. Using the keys on the front of the unit go into the settings and set for 24V battery instead of 12/24 auto detect. Save the setting. Power down the unit by disconnecting the solar and then battery. Power up the unit. It should power up in 24V battery mode. Re-connect the solar input.
